The other day, my eight-year-old came running up to me, eyes shining with excitement. “I have something to show you!” she said, dramatically pulling out a baseball. “It’s signed by Patrick Mahomes!”

Now, I love my daughter, but I also know that Patrick Mahomes plays football, not baseball. And while he’s an incredible athlete, I was pretty sure he hadn’t made a surprise visit to our minor league baseball team in Indiana. But she was convinced. She clutched that ball like it was a priceless treasure, confident that she had something real.

I didn’t want to crush her spirit, but I also knew the truth. So, I gently started pointing out some details—like the fact that Mahomes’ actual signature doesn’t look anything like this, or that there was no record of him ever being here. Slowly, the realization dawned on her. And let’s just say, the meltdown that followed was epic.

That moment reminded me how hard it is to let go of something we believed to be true, especially when we’ve built our confidence around it. It’s one thing to be wrong about a baseball signature; it’s another to wrestle with parts of our faith that don’t hold up under closer examination.

If you’ve ever wrestled with doubt, deconstruction, or the fear of losing what you once believed, this Sunday is for you. Come and see what happens when we stop holding onto what we thought was true—and hold fast to who is the way, the truth and the life. I'll save you a seat.
